Rea & Anna from Open Seas is all ready to share about the new Inshore MPA (Marine Protected Areas) consultation.

About the Consultation:

The Scottish Government was due to publish a consultation on management measures for inshore Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and Priority Marine Features (PMFs). Priority Marine Features (PMFs) are features within the marine environment, including a variety of habitats and species, deemed to be of particular importance to biodiversity and cultural heritage. Despite the Scottish Government designating Marine Protected Areas back in 2015, many remain unprotected with no management measures such as fisheries restrictions in place. This consultation was a long-awaited moment to meaningfully protect Scotland’s seas and it has now been further delayed till 2027!

We need your voice to tell your electoral candidates that our seas matter.

In this workshop you’ll find out:

  • Why your voice is important
  • Ways to engage with the upcoming election and explainers – for example, what is a husting?
  • Hints and tips on how to lobby your electoral candidates
  • How to use marine science to strengthen your lobbying
