Building a Community Arts Hub in Banff: The Forge Banff CIC
NESCAN Hub
The Forge Banff CIC, which we visited mid-2024, is a workshop that has evolved into a community space. This Community Interest Company (CIC) located in Banff consists of a group of like-minded creatives dedicated to turning a small workshop in Banff into a community art hub. Our aim is to offer a range of classes and activities in a safe and welcoming environment!
Their vision is to infuse the town with a lively spirit and provide a welcoming space where everyone can come together to enjoy and learn. The Forge joined NESCAN in June and has been fortunate to receive funding from the Aberdeenshire Two Towns Grant. The £5,000 grant has been instrumental in several key developments: Site Security. The grant allowed them to purchase a gate, securing the site for the first time since ownership. They’ve built planters that are being transformed into a community garden and constructed a shelter that enables them to host outdoor activities.
These developments have already had a positive impact, allowing them to run several outdoor-based activities over the summer, free of charge. John, from The Forge says that this initial burst of activity is not just a service but also a promotional tool to raise awareness and get the community engaged.
The Forge Banff is on its way to becoming a cornerstone of community life, offering a vibrant arts hub for all to enjoy. Through partnerships with organisations like NESCAN and support from local grants, we are laying the foundation for a space where creativity and community spirit can flourish. We invite everyone to join us, participate in our activities, and be a part of this exciting journey.
